NLSA Announces July PYL Players of the Month

Aug. 12, 2022

The NLSA has named its youth players of the month for June 2022 in divisions from U12 to U17. The players come from various clubs including SJSC, PSC, MPSA, CBS, FAA and BPSA.

Backgrounders are below.

GU12 - Adrienne Shannahan (SJSC)

Adrienne Shannahan who plays for SJ soccer club was voted Julys GU12 PYL player of the month.  Adrienne plays both forward and midfield positions and notched 15 goals in 4 games since the start of PYL phase 2 (which began early July).

Adrienne has been with the SJ Soccer Club for three seasons. In her past school year (2021-2022 )at St. Bonaventure's College, she was named female athlete of the year. When she isn't playing soccer with her club team, training with NLSA, practicing with Vancouver Whitecaps, or playing AA or AAA hockey, Adrienne plays the oboe.

BU12T1 - Theo Tocknell (PSC)

Theo has had great success both as an outfielder and in net for Paradise this season. He is a constant threat from the wing, and is a player who combines both an excellent understanding of the game with his work ethic and desire in order to help out his team. He shows great character both on and off the field and is appreciated by his teammates, as well as being a proud member of the NLSA BU12.

BU12T2 - Reilly Miller (MPSA)

Reilly Miller is a passionate young soccer player and a key player with the MPSA U12 PYL Boys team. Reilly brings size, speed, and grit when he dons the Black and Gold. Reilly made the NLSA pool in 2021 and has come a long way as a late starter. His determination and work ethic is like no other. When he reaches his full potential #24 Reilly Miller will be a force to reckon with and he will be the type of player that is a joy to play with but one to fear playing against.  MPSA is proud Reilly is a part of our club!

GU13 - Kate Turpin (PSC)

Kate Turpin plays centre midfield for Paradise Soccer Club's U13 Girls PYL team. She is a creative midfielder with great awareness of where her teammates are around her and uses great composure to effectively distribute the ball. Kate was also a key member of the U13 Girls team that captured Gold in the Atlantic Tournament earlier this month.

BU13 - Quinn Norman (MPSA)

Co-captain of his team, Quinn is an all around central midfielder who has a high soccer IQ. Quinn has an excellent range of passing and dribbling ability and is always a threat to score, as is noted by his league leading 15 goals in 11 games. Coupled with a great work ethic and fierce competitiveness, Quinn is a leader on and off the pitch for his team.

GU15T2 - Megan Ruston (CBS)

Megan Ruston is 15 years old and is a multi-sport athlete. She can be found on most fields around CBS, but we love to see her on our turf. Megan is our top scorer with 11 points in 10 games. She dominates our midfield and can always be found with a smile on her face. Since the beginning of the season, Megan has always given 100% in practice, games and communication on our team. We can't wait to see what Megan does!

GU15T1 - Jorja Row (PSC)

Jorja is a hard working, gritty, relentless defender that has been the anchor of the backline, especially in the month of July. Jorja’s strength is in her ability to read the play and break up attacks, while keeping the backline organized. Her skillfully timed tackles and physical presence make her a difficult player for attackers to play against. Her determination to ensure the ball stays out of the net is one to be admired and is what makes her such a great defender.

BU15T2 - Braden Rennie (BPSA)

Braden continued his good run of form during the month of July, helping his team to a record of 6 wins and 2 ties. He scored 6 goals in that time, which is quite the accomplishment considering he plays as a deeper lying midfielder. He does have a lethal left foot. Braden loves the game. He works very hard on the training pitch and you can see that on the field. He certainly has a bright future in our sport.

BU15T1 - Philip Jarding (SJSC)

The play of Philip Jarding has been a key factor in the success of the St. John’s BU15 team. Philip plays a key role in the midfield, but is very versatile and can play numerous other positions well. He has done a great job at distribution but also takes advantage of scoring opportunities when they arise. Philip’s play can elevate the play of the whole team.

GU17 - Luci Thoms (SJSC)

July was a very successful month for Luci in both the u17 PYL and in Jubilee Trophy play. In PYL play she scored 14 goals in 7 games including multiple assists for her team mates. In Jubilee play, as a call up, she played three games and scored a single goal. Luci’s style of play is fast and aggressive, always pressing from the front to lead her team forward, she uses her speed and skill to unlock defences and converts on a high percentage of the chances created. Congrats Luci from your team mates and coaches!

BU17T2 - Ewan Cleary (CBS)

Ewan had a great month of July. Known for his offensive prowess in hockey, it was Ewan's defensive play that really stood out. Whether he is playing holding mid or center back his physical presence and skilled nature, helped keep his team at bay against very competitive opponents. Most recently, Ewan also showed his scoring ability with a couple of markers, one of them was a real beauty from top of the box.

Ewan's been playing soccer since he was 4, always with a smile on his face, 150% effort and truly leads by example! Although we will miss him when he leaves the province for hockey, please remember we are your biggest fans and we'll be routing for you all the way! Congratulations and well done Ewan!

BU17T1 - Cole Conway

Cole Conway (C) of Feildians is in top form as he adds another 8 goals to his goal scoring lead (14) in 5 games over the month of July. Cole is an extremely versatile player who excels at both attacking and defending. His ability to dribble past players in combination with his playmaking and goal scoring technique make him a threat whenever he touches the ball.
