District Level Referee Courses

Entry Level (ages 14+)

2023 Entry Level Referee Course will be announced early in the new year

The Entry Level Referee Clinic trains participants to be a Referee or an Assistant Referee in 11 a side soccer. This is done with experienced referee instructors who use video educational material and practical on field sessions. The topics covered include, but are not limited to the Laws of the Game, Positioning, Signals, Administration of the game, and Pre-Match Preparation & Match Reporting.

This is a two day clinic of 8hrs per day

The course will guide you through the basic knowledge and information you require to become a new soccer referee.

The online study will give you all the basic information you will need to navigate the Laws of The Game and to understand some basic theory and practical skills.

The in-person practical training will give you a chance to put into practice some of the skills required to actually referee a match. In both cases, as you move through the course, there will be questions to answer in order to test your level of understanding and readiness to move from stage to stage.

A final examination, in combination with completion of the course work, will determine your ability to be certified as a District referee.

Upon successful completion of all the course requirements you will be certified as a District referee. If you are not yet 16 years of age you will be classified as a Youth Referee. A Youth Referee includes all District Referees between the ages of 14 and 16 as at 1 April each season. A Youth referee will automatically become a District referee on reaching the age of 16.

Upon successful completion of the Entry Level Course, you will be advised of the local competitions in which you are eligible to officiate.

Referees who complete this course will be qualified to referee both small-sided and 11/side soccer.
